Over the past couple of months, I’ve noticed many brands using QR Codes. I’ve been taking some images from my local high street stores to see how they use it.

Some of the QR Codes lead to the corporate site which isn’t really a good idea. There’s too much data for a mobile user to consume. Landing pages ideally should be simple and have a pre-defined goal. Having a goal and the ability to measure it is the best way to define a campaign’s success.

Other QR Codes appear not to have any form of tracking or only do QR Code tracking. If you want to track QR Codes and the landing page activity, we recommend our own QR Code Management software. It does a good job of analyzing when, where and what a user did after scanning a QR Code. Being able to know what users do after scanning a QR Code is critical as it helps you optimize the landing page, build a better user experience and reach your defined goals.

While many QR Code tracking platforms only show you the scan numbers and some variations, the scan numbers data are of little significance. You may be impressed when your QR Code campaign gets high numbers of scans but that doesn’t tell you much. Far more important is to learn what the user did after they scanned the barcode. This is another free online tool that you can use to create promotional mini cards. The cards are smaller than the usual business cards, and many people use the mini cards to promote their products and services. This tool will generate QR Codes or Microsoft Tags. You then have an option to use the available templates for the background. You can upload your own if you want.
With the tool, you can change the color, sizes and transparency of these 2D barcodes. The transparency works for the QR Codes only.
